National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government-sponsored public service programme conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. NSS is a voluntary association of young people in colleges, universities and at +2 level working for a campus-community linkage. NSS scheme was launched in Gandhi’s centenary year, 1969.
NSS aims at honing a student’s personality through community service and develop interpersonal relationships and skills. Watching the society at close quarters, orients the students towards the realities of life, which brings about a change in their social perception.
NSS symbol
NSS symbol represents the “Rath Wheel” of the Konark Sun Temple of Orissa. The huge wheel portrays the cycles of creation, preservation and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space. The design of the symbol, a simplified form of Sun Chariot Wheel primarily depicts movement. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life. It also stands for dynamism and progressive outlook of youth.

NSS Activities:
NSS Volunteers of DAV College Bathinda participated in the Great Bathinda Half Marathon (15/10/24).
The NSS unit of DAV College Bathinda in association with ‘Help for Needy Foundation’ participated in The Great Bathinda Half Marathon. Runners participated enthusiastically in the Road race from the starting point at Rose Garden Bathinda. Valiant and Valorous Racers, ran sky- high to the Ring road Bathinda. Duties as diverse as Arranging Refreshment, Conducting the stage, On Route Aid, First Aid were performed whole heartedly by NSS devotees.
The Principal of the College Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma acknowledged the efforts of NSS Coordinators Prof. Amit Kumar Singla, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur and Dr. Amar Santosh for strengthening the activities of NSS unit of the College and encouraging the overwhelming participation of the students.
DAV College, Bathinda organized a lecture on ‘Beauty and Wellness’ by Orane. (9/10/2024)
NSS and Student Welfare Department of DAV College, Bathinda, organized a lecture in association with ‘Orane International School of Hair Skin Make up and Nutrition on the topic of ‘Beauty and Wellness’.
Orane International School of Hair Skin Make up and Nutrition, Bathinda is registered with National Skill Development Corporation as a training provider and also provides postgraduate level certified courses related to beauty and wellness to the students. Julie Dev Burma (Center Director) and Manya Garg (Center Manager) not only gave tips for beautifying and enhancing one’s personality but also informed about the employment opportunities related to Beauty and Wellness Course in the government sector.
College Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma praised the fruitful efforts of NSS and Student Welfare Department for organizing such informative lectures. Registrar Dr. Satish Grover said, “Organizing such programs to give proper guidance to students regarding employment is commendable”. The NSS unit in collaboration with Department of History of DAV College Bathinda organised an Extension Lecture on “Life and Ideology of Shaheed Bhagat Singh” by Prof. Gursewak Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of History, DAV College Bathinda.
Prof. Gursewak dwelled deep in the biographical details, anecdotal history, ideology and principles of the great martyr whose life history is an inspiration for the youth. He is a recognised folk hero even nearly after a century of his valorous and lion hearted death sacrifice for the cause of nation. The story of his martyrdom was elaborated to arise the feeling of nationalism and patriotism amongst the students .He appealed the youth of the current time to read and follow his ideology to serve for some national cause. Around 150 students enthusiastically listened to the lecture.

The NSS and Student Welfare Department of DAV College Bathinda organised ‘Kite Flying Competition’ for the students. Around 250 students became the part of this celebrations of flying kites without the use of Chinese String and sought the blessings of Goddess Saraswati for better academic performances. The kites of vibrant hues were spread all over the sky. The students, the teachers and staff from Non teaching had a fun filled day. The idea behind the organising this event was to promote the spirit of harmony amongst students and rejuvenated them from their academic routine. The Principal of the College Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma inaugurated the festival. NSS, NCC and Youth Welfare Department of DAV College, Bathinda resolutely observed Swachh Bharat Divas to celebrate the ‘Jan Andolan’ for swachata as a tribute to the Mahatma Gandhi’s Swachh Bharat Mission.
A total of 308 NSS and 25 NCC volunteers along with the teaching and non teaching staff of DAV College Bathinda participated in the event.

DAV College Bathinda, participates in Mega Event of Indian Swachata League 2.0.
NSS unit of DAV College Bathinda gives its contribution in the Mega event of Indian Swachata League 2.0 organized by Municipal Corporation of Bathinda. Activities like Cleanliness Campaign, Tree Plantation, Wet Waste to Compost, Waste to Art and Bio Engymes were planned in the event. A total of 52 NSS volunteers got indulged in this Mega drive, organised at Dadi Poti Park, Model Town, Phase III, Bathinda.
The purpose of launching this campaign was to create an awareness amongst the residents to keep the surroundings clean and environment friendly. The Principal of the college, Dr. Rajeev Sharma applauded the steadfast efforts of Dr. Vandana Jindal (IIC Coordinator), Prof. Rajesh Batra, Dr. Surinder Kumar Singla and NSS Coordinators Prof. Amit Kumar Singla, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur and Dr. Amar Santosh for the beautification of the city.
DAV College Bathinda Organizes Poster Making and Declamation Competitions on “Nashey Bhagao, Beta Bachao”. (23 Sep., 2023)
The NSS Unit, Red Ribbon Club in collaboration with Institutional Innovation Council (IIC) and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of DAV College Bathinda organized Declamation and Poster Making Competitions on “Nashey Bhagao, Beta Bachao” on September 23, 2023, under the auspices of Dainik Bhaskar. The students presented posters on themes related to educating people about drug use disorders, available treatments and the importance of early intervention and support; empowering young people and communities to prevent drug use and addiction and many others. The young crusaders through their poster and vehement speeches took a pledge to “Say Yes to Life and No to Drugs”. Through their speeches, the students exhorted the young generation to stay away from the vicious trap of drugs. The abuse of alcohol and drugs continue to be a detrimental cause both for the parents as well as the nation.
The Poster Making Competition was judged by Mr. Pradeep Kumar (Senior Correspondent, Dainik Bhaskar), Dr. Vandana Jindal (IIC Coordinator), Dr. Pawan Kumar (IQAC Coordinator) and Dr. Paramjeet Kaur (Youth Coordinator) and the Declamation competition by Dr. Neetu Purohit.
Around 45 NSS volunteers participated in the event. The first prize in the poster competition was won by Himanshu Bansal (BA II), second by Anjali (B.Com Hons.) and the third was won by Anjali Kumari (B.Sc. III). Harleen (BA II) bagged the first prize in the declamation competition, Harmanpreet and Simranjeet (M.Sc. II) stood second and the third prize was won by Khushi (BA II).
Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma appreciated the NSS Coordinators Prof. Amit Kumar Singla, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur and Dr. Amar Santosh Singh for organizing this event. He also praised the efforts of NSS volunteers and the participants. He stated that it is the institution’s primary focus to work towards the well being of the students. He said that in order to take concrete steps towards keeping the promising youth away from the menace of drugs, DAV College is furthering the initiative of Dainik Bhaskar of “Nashey Bhagao, Beta Bachao”, which will lead the youth towards the right direction and nurture them into confident individuals.

DAV College, Bathinda Plays a Part in Plastic Free Environment Drive. (14 Sep., 2023)
On September 14, 2023, the NSS unit of DAV College, Bathinda participated in ” Plastic Free Environment Drive”, under “Zero Waste Campaign”, organized by Municipal Corporation, Bathinda.
The NSS volunteers of the college extended their whole hearted services to the campaign which was organised in collaboration with Sanitation Branch of Municipal Corporation, Bathinda and Trees Lovers’ Society. 23 volunteers participated in this campaign and helped in sanitizing the area, near Power House Road, Bathinda.
The campaign was launched to create awareness amongst the residence to keep their surroundings Plastic Free. Principal of the college, Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma appreciated the perpetual efforts made by the NSS unit for the beautification of the city.

The NSS unit, Red Ribbon Club and Student Welfare Department of DAV College Bathinda in association with Police Station Civil Lines Bathinda organized an awareness lecture. Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Staff Secretary Prof. Kuldeep Singh, Prof Meetu S Wadhwa and NSS, Red Ribbon Club and Student Welfare Department Coordinators Prof. Amit Kumar Singla, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Dr. Amar Santosh Singh, Dr. Surinder Kumar Singla and Dr. Neha Jindal extended a warm welcome to the esteemed members of police administration, Civil lines Bathinda.
The resource person on the occasion was Shri Gulneet Singh Khurana (IPS) SSP Bathinda, Shri Narinder Singh (PPS) SP (City)) Bathinda, Shri Gurpreet Singh (PPS) DSP (city-2) Bathinda, Inspector Yadwinder Singh SHO Thana Civil Lines Bathinda and Inspector Harpreet Singh Chahal and all staff members of Saanjh Kendra Civil Lines Bathinda.
DSP Gurpreet Singh delivered an informative lecture and addressed the students to stay away from drugs and focus on their studies. SP Shri Narinder Singh interacted with the students and stressed up on the need to convert negative energy in to positive energy. He said that you cannot rise high in life if you become drug addicted. Further, SSP shri Gulneet Singh Khurana talked about ‘Pyramid of Drugs’. He also informed the students about the symptoms of drug addicted person and how one can help drug addicted person to lead a normal social life. He also motivated the students to take oath against drug addiction as “Zindagi nu Haan, Nasheyan nu Naa”. Furthermore, Inspector Harpreet Singh Chahal informed the students about the reasons of drug addiction in Punjab. As Punjab being a Border State, the drugs are spreading at a high speed in the state.

He also applauded the efforts of the NSS department, Red Ribbon Club and Student Welfare Department. About 200 students, faculty and staff members were present in the lecture. DAV College Bathinda Organises Blood Donation Camp on Teachers Day(September 5, 2023)
On the auspicious occasion of Teachers Day (September 5, 2023), the NSS unit, Red Ribbon Club and Student Welfare Department of DAV College Bathinda in association with various social organizations of Bathinda organized a Blood Donation Camp. Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Staff Secretary Prof. Kuldeep Singh and NSS, Red Ribbon Club and Student Welfare Department Coordinators Prof. Amit Kumar Singla, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Dr. Amar Santosh Singh and Dr. Neha Jindal extended a warm welcome to the esteemed members of social organizations, namely, Life Saving Health Care Society, Help For Needy Foundation, Team Seva Bathinda Society, Shree Shyam Rasoi, AAS Welfare Society, Animal Care Mission, WADI Blood Bank and HDFC Bank.
Many students, faculty and staff members participated enthusiastically in this social drive and donated 45 units of blood to increase awareness among individuals. Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Prof. Ravinder Singh, Prof. Ravi Nagpal, Prof. Harjinder and Prof. Gursewak came ahead and contributed towards this noble cause by donating blood. Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar stated that this blood donation camp has been organized keeping in sync with the tenets of service and sacrifice as laid down by the exemplary teacher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He emphasized on the pivotal role that Dr. Radhakrishnan’s teachings have played in shaping the future generations and exhorted the teaching fraternity to transcend the boundaries of their classrooms and motivate the youth to come forward and donate blood for the noble cause. Blood Donation, he stated is a noble cause and all of us should “Donate our blood for a reason and let the reason be life”. He greatly appreciated the efforts of the NSS coordinators Prof. Amit Kumar Singla, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur and Dr. Amar Santosh Singh and the NSS volunteers for their dedicated efforts in organizing this blood donation camp. He also expressed gratitude to the doctors from Wadi Hospital, Bathinda for rendering their valuable services.

DAV College Bathinda Organises Extension Lecture on “Indian Army: A Life, Less Ordinary”- Do You Dare?(25 Aug 2023)
The NSS Department and the Career Counselling and Placement Cell of DAV College Bathinda organized an extension lecture on “Indian Army: A Life Less Ordinary”- Do You Dare? by Capt. Kunal Kulhari. The esteemed guest was accorded a warm welcome by the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, and NSS Coordinators Prof. Amit Kumar Singla and Dr. Amar Santosh Singh.
Capt. Kunal Kulhari interacted with the students and informed them about the various exams, entry points and schemes to join the army. They were made aware of the hierarchy in Indian Army and deliberated upon the various courses and training programmes offered. He shared his lifetime experiences and deliberated upon the various duties assigned to them, both of war time and peace time with the youth. The students listened enthusiastically and interacted to enquire about the various challenges faced by the Army men. They showed keen interest in joining the Army and enquired about the special entry points. Around 150 students attended the Seminar.

DAV College Bathinda Organises Poster Making Competition on “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” (26-06-2023)
The NSS Unit of DAV College Bathinda organized Poster Making Competition on “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on June 26, 2023. The students presented posters on themes related to educating people about drug use disorders, available treatments and the importance of early intervention and support; empowering young people and communities to prevent drug use and addiction and many others. Around 16 NSS volunteers participated in the event. The first prize in the competition was bagged by Sonia (BAI), second by Priti Yadav (M.Sc. Chemistry I) and the third by Khushi Khan (BA I). The Poster Making Competition was judged by Prof. Ravinder Singh and Dr. Vandana Jindal. The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Prof. Sandeep Bhatia along with the Heads of the various Departments and the faculty members.
Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma appreciated the NSS Coordinators Prof. Amit Kumar Singla and Dr. Prabhjot Kaur for organizing this event. He also praised the efforts of NSS volunteers and the participants. He stated that the theme of this year “People First: Stop Stigma And Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention”, encapsulates the need of raising awareness amongst the people about treating people who use drugs with respect and empathy; showing compassion, prioritizing prevention and offering voluntary services and remedial measures to the affected. He further stated that the institution’s primary aim is to combat stigma and discrimination against people who use drugs, and take concrete steps to lead them towards the right direction and nurture confident individuals.
International Yoga Day Celebrated at DAV College Bathinda (21-06-2023)
Observing the theme of 2023 “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, DAV College Bathinda celebrated the ninth International Yoga Day, in its true spirit and a befitting manner. The programme was organized by the NSS unit of the college in collaboration with Natural Yoga Vigyan Sansthan (Regd.), Bathinda under the guidance of Sh. Dalip Kr. Nandan (Executive Engineer, Retd.) and Sh. Om Pal Tomar (Yoga Expert). The assembled gathering practiced pranayam, yoga asanas and meditation, which made them experience the fresh wave of energy and vigor radiate their whole being.
The event saw a larger participation of the staff, which included the Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Staff Secretary Prof. Kuldeep Singh, Prof. Vikas Katia, Dr. Shishpal Jindal, Prof. Meetu S. Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma appreciated the dedicated efforts of Prof. Rajesh Batra and the NSS coordinators Prof. Amit Kumar Singla and Dr. Prabhjot Kaur for not only making scrupulous arrangements for Yoga Day in the college, but also accompanying the NSS volunteers to Anaj Mandi (Dana Mandi), Bathinda for participating in the yoga events on the occasion of “International Yoga Day”, organized by the Government of Punjab. He applauded the staff members, students, NSS volunteers and volunteers of other departments for showing a keen interest in following a fitness regime on this auspicious occasion. Addressing the gathering on the issue of health and well-being, he acknowledged that yoga is not only about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with one’s own self. He stated that Yoga brings harmony in all walks of life and helps one to combat diseases, promote health and judiciously manage many lifestyle-related disorders.

The NSS unit of DAV College Bathinda participated in “My City My Pride” campaign, organized by the Municipal Corporation, Bathinda. The drive was launched as per the guidelines of “Swachh Bharat Mission”. The NSS volunteers of the college extended their wholehearted services to the campaign in collaboration with NGOs, Tree Lover’s Society and Sanitation Branch of Municipal Corporation, Bathinda. Around 50 volunteers participated in this campaign and cleaned the slum area of Dhobiana Basti. The campaign was launched to create awareness amongst the residents to keep their surroundings clean, which will lead to a good health.
Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma expressed gratitude to the NSS volunteers for participating in the cleanliness drive and creating a clean and hygienic environment for the residents of the area. He greatly applauded the strenuous efforts of NSS coordinators Prof. Amit Kumar Singla and Dr. Prabhjot Kaur for motivating the students to come ahead for this righteous cause. He stated that this initiative of the Government and the Municipal Corporation Bathinda has explained the young brigade the true meaning of NSS motto “Not Me But You” and motivated them to extend their enthusiastic support for a noble cause.

DAV College Bathinda Celebrates World Environment Day (5 June 2023)
DAV College Bathinda celebrated “World Environment Day” in the college campus to create consciousness amongst the youth towards conserving the environment. Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Staff Secretary Prof. Kuldeep Singh; Retd. Prof. Madan Lal and the HoDs and faculty members of all the departments, coordinators of various units like NCC, NSS, Student Welfare, Red Ribbon Club, Youth Welfare, Physical Education and many others planted saplings of varied species in the college ground with great enthusiasm. The faculty and the students also took the pledge to water and nurture the saplings planted by their respective departments and the units on daily basis.
Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma stated that the theme of this year’s Environment Day “Solutions to Plastic Pollution” should be followed in letter and spirit. The use of harmful plastic should be banned, which if not controlled, can prove to be hazardous for all species. He further added that such plantation drives are a solution to sensitize the youth towards taking all suitable measures for combating the environmental issues and conserving nature. He exhorted the students to participate in this drive wholeheartedly and support the government in making the environment clean and safe.
DAV College Bathinda Organises Blood Donation Camp on (20 April 2023)
To commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Hansraj, the NSS unit and Red Ribbon Club of DAV College Bathinda in association with Team Help for Needy Foundation and HDFC Bank organized Blood Donation Camp on April 20, 2023. Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Staff Secretary Prof. Kuldeep Singh, IQAC Coordinator Prof. Pawan Kumar and NSS & Red Ribbon Club Coordinator Prof. Amit Kumar Singla extended a warm welcome to the esteemed guests, the members of Team Help for Needy Foundation Mr. Anand Jain (Founder), Mr. Khushal Singla (President), Mr. Sachin Garg (General Secretary), Mr. Ishaan Goyal (President, Ramamandi), Mr. Gurjeet Singh Dhillon (Faridkot), Mr. Bhola (Bathinda), Mr. Karandeep Singh (City Head, HDFC Bank), Mr. Vishal Arora (HDFC Bank), Dr. Richika, Ms. Neelam Garg and team members from Civil Hospital.
The students and the staff of the college participated wholeheartedly in the camp and donated 38 units of blood.

Campus Beautification: One Day NSS Camp at DAV College Bathinda

The NSS department of DAV College Bathinda organized a one day campus beautification camp on February 13, 2023. Around 35 NSS volunteers spruced up the area by applying bright coat of paint to the benches, flower beds, pillars, etc. giving the lawns and the vehicle parking wall a new fresh look under the supervision of the NSS officers Dr. Surinder Kumar Singla, Prof. Amit Kumar Singla and Dr. Prabhjot Kaur. Registrar Dr. Satish Grover was also present on the occasion.
Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma expressed pleasure over witnessing the wholehearted participation of NSS volunteers and NSS Officers. He congratulated the NSS officers for the meticulous execution of the task. He stated that the motto of NSS of Education through Service has been translated into action by the NSS volunteers. The whole campus has come alive with the efforts of the volunteers.

Tree Plantation Drive at DAV College Bathinda on 15th Aug. 2022
Taking steps to conserve the environment, a Tree Plantation Drive was organized by DAV College Bathinda. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Principal H.R. Gandhar (Vice President, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi). Dr. K.K. Nohria (Senior Member, Local Committee) was also present on the occasion. A floral welcome was extended to the distinguished guests by the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, teaching and non–teaching staff.
Many saplings of varied species were planted by the guests, faculty and staff during the drive with great enthusiasm. The Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma stated that such drives are organized to sensitize the youth towards taking all suitable measures for combating the environmental issues and conserving nature. This, he stated, can be achieved by planting saplings and making them consider it their prime duty to nurture these plants throughout their life. He expressed gratitude to the NSS Programme Officers Dr. Surinder Kumar Singla, Prof. Amit Kumar Singla, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur and the student volunteers for their constant efforts towards making the campus green and eco friendly.
75th Anniversary of India’s Independence Celebrated at DAV College Bathinda on 15th Aug. 2022
The 75th anniversary of India’s Independence was celebrated with great reverence and enthusiasm at DAV College Bathinda. The programme commenced with the flag hoisting by the esteemed Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma which was followed by a ceremonious march past by the NCC cadets.
In his overwhelming speech, the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma exhorted one and all to ponder upon the key words of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava”, which reminds us all of our duties towards the nation, when demanding for our rights. He expressed gratitude to the departments of NCC, NSS, Youth Welfare and Physical Education for organizing this event efficiently.
DAV College Bathinda Observes Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign
DAV College Bathinda on the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav observed ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign to mark the 75th year of India’s independence. This auspicious occasion was graced by the presence of Sh. H.R. Gandhar (Vice President, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi) and Dr. K.K. Nohria, Senior Member, Local Committee. The distinguished guests were accorded a warm welcome by the Principal Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, members of the faculty, administration, general office and the students.
All the members present on the occasion clicked a selfie with the National Flag and also assembled for the group photograph. The occasion invoked a sense of patriotism and pride in every soul and pervaded the atmosphere with jubilation and belongingness.

- In a bid to extend support to the National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH) observing the Communal Harmony Campaign and Fund Raising Week (from Nov. 19 to Nov. 25), the NSS unit of DAV College Bathinda observed Flag Day on Nov. 25 in its campus with great enthusiasm and fervor. On the occasion of flag day, the students were exhorted to cultivate the ethos of Communal Harmony and National Integration. The NSS volunteers collected Rs. 6,750/- to extend financial support for destitute children affected by communal, caste, ethnic or terrorist violence.
The Principal Dr. Sanjeev Sharma for promotion of this noble cause, said that a little support extended by the faculty, staff and students may bring a smile to the faces of the destitute. He appreciated the earnest efforts of NSS coordinators, Prof. Satish Grover, Prof. Anuja Puri and Prof. Kuldeep Singh.
The Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg praised the NSS volunteers and the coordinators for collecting the sum and lending a helping hand to the needy.
- The NSS Deptt. of DAV College Bathinda organised an Awareness campaign on “Excessive Use of Antibiotics” on Nov. 20, 2019.The students and the staff were informed about the awareness app launched by World Health Organisation to minimise the use of excessive use of antibiotics. They were informed that a common man can use this app by putting in information regarding his health, diseases, symptoms and seek advice.A Poster making competition was also held on the occasion. 18 students participated in this competition. Lisa (BSc(M) -III) bagged1st position, Anamika (BA-I) stood second and Chanchal (BA-I) got third position. The Principal Dr. Sanjeev Sharma praised the NSS Programme Officers for organising this awareness programme.
- The NSS unit of DAV College Bathinda organised a “NukkadNatak” in the college premises on Oct. 22, 2019 to make everyone aware of celebrating Green Diwali. The volunteers of NSS performed very well and in an exceptionally beautiful manner exhorted all to celebrate Green Diwali. Citing examples from the era of Lord Rama, they portrayed that how by lighting diyas and preparing sweets one can enjoy a sparkling and a sweet Diwali. They drew a strong message across the audience that the sanctity of this festival should be maintained by abstaining from lighting crackers and causing pollution.
The staff and the students watched the “NukkadNatak” with rapt attention and pledged that they will celebrate a Green Diwali and protect the environment.The Principal Dr. Sanjeev Sharma appreciated the efforts of NSS Programme Officers Prof. Satish Grover, Prof.AnujaPuri and Prof.Kuldeep Singh. He stated that if we want to gift a cleaner and a healthier environment to our successive generations, we should take effective steps like celebrating Green Diwali, thus making our world pollution free and a better place to live in.
- NSS unit of DAV college Bathinda organized a spiritual lecture on Oct.11,2019 by Dr. Avninder Singh, Director General, Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Bathinda on “Aao Jiviye Guru Nanak De Bachna Naal”, to commemorate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Dr. Avninder Singh during his lecture elaborated on the 3H Education Model of Guru Nanak Dev Ji i.e Hand, Heart and Head. He expounded on the significance of how by working and preserving, we should earn an honest livelihood and by sharing with others and being sympathetic towards others we will tread ahead on the path shown by God. He advised the young crowd to imbibe the teachings of tolerance, as religion does not divide but unite and spread the message of one God who dwells in every one of His creations and constitutes the eternal truth. About 110 NSS Volunteers and 12 faculty members were present on this occasion.

- NSS unit of the college organized an awareness lecture on Sept. 30, 2019 on “Anaemia Prevention and Balanced Diet” by Dr. Manparvesh Singh Chahal, Consultant Dietician, Care Hospital, Bathinda. Dr. Chahal discussed in detail about the eating patterns and the health of growing girls. He called nature as the best medicine and reiterated use of coconut oil, turmeric, cinnamon, curry leaves and other such natural products to improve our memory and increase our immunity. 16 faculty members along with 75 NSS volunteers participated in the lecture. The Principal Dr. Sanjeev Sharma appreciated the NSS unit for organizing such lectures which aim of improving the health of the students and the staff.

- To mark the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of NSS, the NSS unit of DAV College Bathinda organized a “Swachhta hi Sewa” Camp in the college premises on Sep. 22, 2019.52 NSS volunteers wholeheartedly participated in the camp and cleaned every nook and corner of the college. The Principal Dr. Sanjeev Sharma, Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar, NSS Programme Officers Prof. Satish Grover, Prof. Anuja Puri, Prof. Kuldeep Singh and NSS Volunteers welcomed the distinguished guests Prof. Ashok Gupta(Retd. Assistant Prof. ,DAV College, Bathinda) and Dr. Rupali(MBBS, MD Community Medicine, Adesh University). Prof Ashok Gupta in his lecture asked the students to identify the needs and problems of the community and develop themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility. Dr. Rupali stated about the various diseases like dengue, malaria,typhoid etc which emanate from unhygienic conditions and dirty surroundings. These diseases may turn fatal if proper preventive measures are not taken. She thus advised everyone to take it as moral responsibility to keep the surroundings clean. Dr. Sanjeev Sharma appreciated NSS officers and volunteers for their dedicated and untiring efforts. He stated that NSS teaches the Youth to bear their social responsibility and orients them toward social welfare.

- To commemorate 38th death anniversary of the Freedom Fighter Lala Jagat Narain on September 09, 2019, the department of NSS in association with Punjab Kesari Group, Bathinda organized Blood Donation Camp. In order to encourage the students and the blood donors, the distinguish guest present on the occasion were Dr. Nanak Singh(SSP, Bathinda City), Sh. Arunjit Gill(Chairman, Congress Bathinda), Sh. Narender Modi on 29 August 2019. 54 students enthusiastically and intently listen to the speech by the PM. - 5th International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm under the banner of NSS deptt. on 21st June,2019. Yog Guru Radhey Sham Bansal, President Yog Sewa Samiti and Prof. N.K.Gosain- Chairmain Yog Sewa Samiti, Bathinda graced the occasion. Yog Guru guided the participants revealing benefits of different ‘Yogasans’ for different health problems. The Principal Dr. Sanjeev Sharma made an appeal to the participants to make Yoga a part of their daily life for physical and mental health. 57 NSS Volunteers and 16 faculty members (teaching and non-teaching) joined the occasion and availed the benefits of Yoga.

- The NSS unit observed Youth Empowerment Day in the campus on March 23, 2019. Mahajan and Dr. Richika Gupta,Pathogist, from Advanced Cancer Institute, Bathinda. Dr. Richika’s lecture offered pertinent information on cancer risks, prevention and early detection.Dr. M.K. - The NSS unit organised a training programme on “First Aid and Home Nursing” by Sh. Naresh Pathania ,Training officer, Red cross Society, Bathinda on Feb. 23, 2019. Mr. Pathania gave a power point presentation and demonstrated the effective first aid measures. Near about 120 NSS volunteers and approximate 25 staff members participated in this event.

- NSS Department and Red Ribbon Club observed Worlds AIDS Day on Dec. 04, 2018.
- To commemorate 550th Birthday of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the department of NSS and Red Ribbon Club in association with HDFC Bank organized Blood Donation Camp on Nov. 21, 2018. The students and the staff of the college donated 40 units of blood voluntarily.
- Working towards the welfare of the community, the NSS Department in association with Noujawan Welfare Society distributed clothes, blankets and other things of requirement in the Kheta Basti on Nov. 15, 2018.
- The NSS and Red Ribbon Club conducted a rally under Environment Consciousness Drive in order to spread awareness about the ills of the stubble burning amongst the farmers on Oct. 29, 2018. 30 NSS volunteers participated in the campaign.
- NSS Department on the occasion of Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi organized a Special Prayer and Cleanliness Drive on Oct. 02, 2018.
- NSS and Red Ribbon Club earmarked a Charity Point in the college, where the students and the staff of the college can donate clothes, utensils, stationary and other things of daily needs for the deprived people on Sept. 21, 2018.
- NSS and Red Ribbon Club carried out a Tree Plantation Drive in the college campus on Sept. 20, 2018.

NSS Activities: 2017-18
1. International Yoga day was celebrated under the guidance of Yoga Guru Shri Radhey Shyam Bansal. Acharya Ganesh Dutt Sharma made the assembled gathering practice yoga asanas.
2. In association with Dera Saccha Sauda a Tree Plantation Drive was organized in the college campus.
3. NSS Department organized an address by Ashish Sharma, a soul of rhyming, a healer. Ashish Sharma who has started a walk of 17,000 k.m. advocating the right of children for a safe and healthy childhood made an appeal to the students of DAV College, Bathinda to adopt zero tolerance towards child begging.
4. A lecture on “My Vision: Corruption Free India” to observe National Vigilance Awareness Week. The lecture was delivered by Inspector Bharat Singh and he was accompanied by Sub Inspector Vijay and his team.
5. Blood Donation Camp was organised. 28 units of blood were donated voluntarily by the students and the staff of the college.
6. Poster Making Competition in observance of ‘World Aids Day’ was organized.
7. On the occasion of National Youth Day, the NSS volunteers made a visit to the school run by Appu Society in Dhobiana Basti for the underprivileged .
8. Thought provoking posters on the themes of female foeticide, women Empowerment etc. were prepared by the students.
9. A declamation programme was organized to highlight the social evils existing in our society.
10. Lecture ” My Vision Corruption Free India” delivered by Inspector Bharat Singh on 04-11-2017.
11. “Run for Unity” (Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel) held on 31-10-2017.
12. Lecture on “Shun Drugs” & Oath Taking Ceremony has taken place on 30-09-2017.
13. Cleanliness Camp under New India Movement (2017-2022) was organized on 27-09-2017.
14. Youth Empowerment Day(Saheedi Divas) celebrated on 23-03-2018.
NSS Activities: 2016-17
1. The NSS unit in association with HDFC Bank Ltd. organized a Blood Donation Camp on 22.11.16. 51 units of blood was donated voluntarily by the students and the staff of the college. On another occasion, on 01.09.2016 NSS volunteers donated blood to patients in emergency situation.
2. The NSS, Dean Student Welfare and NCC units in association with National Disaster Response Force organized a lecture on Vigilance Awareness by Mr. Radheyshyam, ASI, NDRF, accompanied by inspector Gurmel Singh.
3. A one day Cleanliness Camp was organised on 25.9.16. 30 N.S.S. volunteers rendered their services and cleaned the college campus.
4. The students on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Week recited patriotic soul stirring poems highlighting the contributions of the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. The administration, staff and the students administered a pledge to withstand the onslaughts on the unity, security and integrity of the nation.
5. Voters Day Oath taking Ceremony held on 25-01-2017.
6. Celebration of Rashtriya Exta Week was celebrated on 04-11-2016.
7. Extension Lecture to celebrate National Vigilance Week was delivered on 04-11-2016.
8. Voter Awareness Seminar was held on 08-10-2016, Chief Guest for the seminar was ADC Ms. Sheena Aggarwal.
9. Voter Awareness Rally has taken place on 02-10-2016.
10. Declamation & Poem Recitation Competition was organized on 27-08-2016 and Chief Guest for this event was Dr. Nanak Singh, IPS, SP Bathinda.
11. Mass singing of National Anthem on the event Azzadi-70’s “Yaad Karo Kurbani” organized on 23-08-2016 .
12.National Youth Day Celebrated on 17-08-2016.
NSS Activities: 2015-16
1. NSS organized a special lecture on the life of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. Prof. Sandeep Bhatia, NSS Programme officer delivered a lecture on the inspirational life of the Loh Purush.
2. NSS organized a special lecture on the life of Swami Vivekanand. Dr. R.K. Mahajan, President, Swami Vivekanand Study Circle, delivered the lecture. 12-01-2016
3. Woolen wear was distributed to the underprivileged students on 6-1.-2016.
4. An essay writing competition was organized in the campus on Lala Lajpat Rai’s 150th birth anniversary.
5. Documentary film “Awareness on Aids”, a Government of India initiative was screened for the students of the college on 01-12-2015.
