Department of Economics is one of the oldest departments of the DAV College, Bathinda which began its journey in 1969. Since inception, the Department has been making constant efforts to raise academic, intellectual and scholastic standards through different programmes and activities. Department of Economics and NSS Department of DAV college Bathinda organized a Fresher’s Party for the new admitted in the NSS and Department of Economics. Dr. Surinder Kumar Singla (HoD, Economics) and Prof. Amit Kumar Singla (NSS COORDINATOR) addressed the budding flowers and welcomed them in the College.

On gracing the event, The Principal of the College Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Dr. Satish Grover, Prof. Ravinder Singh, Dr. Monika Ghulla, Prof. Heena Bindal, Dr. Satinder Kaur were welcomed by Dr. Surinder Singla, Prof. Amit Kumar Singla, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Dr. Amar Santosh and Prof. Shamsher Khan.

The event began with the enchanting of passionate songs, dance performances and dramatic performances of the new entrants. The Welcoming day concluded with a Talent Hunt, in which Ishita (BA) and Suhana (NSS) were declared Miss Fresher(s) and Mr. Fresher(s) were Sukhpal Singh (BA) and Manpreet Singh (NSS).

On conclusion, Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma emphasized the importance of holistic education and encouraged students to actively participate in extra curricular activities.

DAV College Bathinda organises an Extension Lecture and a Poster Presentation Competition on National Economics Day.

Department of Economics of DAV College Bathinda organised a Guest Lecture on “Indian Economy” by Dr. Sarabjeet Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Punjabi University Patiala and a Poster Presentation Competition under the adjudication of Dr. Ravita, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics Punjabi University Patiala. The ideal of celebrating Economics day was to clarify conceptual and theoretical aspects of economics. The esteemed guests were felicitated by the Vice Principal Prof. Parveen Kumar Garg, Registrar Dr. Satish Grover, Prof. Vikas Katia, Head Department of Economics Dr. Surinder Singla, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur and Prof. Shamsher Singh.
Dr. Sarabjeet Singh elaborated on Indian Economy. He gave the factual and ground description of the various challenges faced by Indian Economy and suggested appropriate solutions. He discussed various relevant concepts such as Growth Rate, Poverty Line, Economical Inequality and Rate of Economic Satisfaction. He delineated about the opportunities of employment in the field of Economics which was keenly listened to by the students.
Poster presentation competition on the theme “Environmental Economics” was also organised on this occasion displaying and elaborating the need to step towards Sustainable Development in the era of economic growth. Dr. Ravita performed the honorable role of adjudication and appreciated the artistic and intellectual portraits by the presentators.20 students from the Department of Economics participated in the poster making competition. Sonia received the first prize, Suhana the second and Rahul the third prize. The consolation prize was awarded to Ishita.
The Principal of the College Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma appreciated the overwhelming participation of the students and applauded the efforts of the Dr. Surinder Singla, Head, Department of Economics, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur and Prof. Shamsher Khan for organising such enlightening and informative events. Dr. Amar Santosh Singh, Dr. Paramjeet Kaur, Prof. Amit Singla, Dr. Neha Jindal, Dr. Satinder Kaur, Prof. Neha Sharma, Prof. Pawanpreet Singh, Dr. Monika Ghulla, Prof. Heena Bindal, Dr. Ranjeet Singh and Prof. Ramil Gupta graced the occasion.
 

Student Enrichment Programmes:

  • Department of Economics organized a National Seminar on topic “Rural Transformation in Punjab: Issues and Challenges” on 24th September 2022. The seminar was sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.

The students are quite enthusiastic to organize and participate in various activities planned by the department of economics. They have participated in Slogan Writing Competition on War and Peace on 9th March, 2022.

Department of Economics organised an online extension lecture on topic “Union Budget 2022: Challenges and Implications” by Prof. (Dr.) Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Ex-Registrar,  Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar on February 09, 2022.

Department of Economics organised an online extension lecture on topic “Intellectual Property Rights: Importance and Role in Today’s Era” by Dr. Priti Khetarpal, School of Health Sciences, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda on January 22, 2022.

Department of Economics organised an extension lecture on topic Challenges Facing Indian Economy by Prof. (Dr.) Harsh Gandhar, University School of Open Learning, Panjab University, Chandigarh on April 15, 2019.

 
Deptt. of Economics organized a National Seminar on topic “Agricultural Crisis and Farmers’ Distress in Punjab” on 10th March, 2017. The seminar was sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.

Deptt. of Economics organized an Extension Lecture by a renowned economist Dr. Sucha Singh Gill on topic ” Globalization and Indian Economy” on 10th April, 2016.
