DAV College, Bathinda, a part of the great chain of DAV Institutions run by the DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi holds aloft the beacon of higher learning and thought. The name DAV is synonymous with the lives of noble souls such as Swami Dayanand Sarawati, Mahatma Hansraj, Mahatma Anand Swami and other righteous pioneers who gave us a vision and a mission and left behind a trail of footsteps to follow onto the path of wisdom and glory. D.A.V. College Managing Committee (DAVCMC) founded in 1886 in Lahore by the efforts of Mahatma Hansraj, with Rai Bahadur Lal Chand as its first President, DAV movement spread far and wide throughout the country. DAV thus emerged as not only an educational movement; but a Faith, a Tradition and a way of life. The DAV movement was initiated in the nineteenth century to dispel the darkness of ignorance and propagate the efforts of Maharishi Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj who had devoted his entire life to the task of re-awakening the soul of India. Swami Dayanand was followed by veterans like Mahatma Hans Raj, Pt. Lekh Ram, Swami Shardhanand, Lala Lajpat Rai and many other illuminaries. They all worked towards strengthening the Indian society by evolving an educational system which sought to combine the moral and spiritual values of the ancient Vedic India with scientific out-look of materialistic West. Men of the stature of Shri Mehar Chand Mahajan, former Chief Justice of India, Dr. G.L. Dutta, former Vice-Chancellor Vikram University, Sh. J.L. Kapur, retired judge Supreme Court of India, Lala Suraj Bhan, former Vice- Chancellor of Kurukshetra and Punjab University, Shri Ved Vyasa , eminent scholar of Sanskrit and Shri Darbari Lal, an able administrator, led this organization in the past. DAV College Bathinda feels humbled and privileged for being situated in the region of Bathinda which is blessed to have witnessed Mahatma Anand Swami’s presence in this hallowed city on the occasion of laying of the foundation stone of the Science Block of MHR School, Bathinda. Carrying ahead this legacy of ushering in an era of enlightenment, Shri Punam Suri, grandson of Mahatma Anand Swami took over the reins of DAV institutions, steering this edifice of knowledge with a farsighted and illuminating vision.
DAV fraternity has always emerged as a Spartan which has risen from strength to strength, has set new benchmarks in the field of education and set ablaze the torch of knowledge from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. One of DAVs precocious offshoot DAV College Bathinda, made a humble beginning in 1969. Since then, the college paying homage to the founding fathers of the institution, has promoted morality and sobriety of life, therefore, believing in sensitizing the role of younger generation in nation building. The institution envisages a better tomorrow for its students while keeping them grounded to their cultural moorings and endeavors to equip them with the tenets of ethics, culture and knowledge.
